Artistic authenticity, individuality and fluidity as a ‘new’ ideal to strive for in dance. Variety and diversity as enrichment. Tolerance for the other in dance and art that is not oneself. Do these components contradict the historically conditioned constancy of the word ideal as a guideline, orientation and model to be achieved and to which one should supposedly conform? When are ideals good and important, when are they restrictive and limiting? What is the relationship between individual reality and authenticity and an overarching ideal in the field of dance and art? And to what extent do individual impulses and facets re-shape the international dance and art landscape, and indeed the ideals of society itself? What could the dialogue between the individual and the ideal authority or institution ultimately look like?
