Wildfire

In this edition of 9th Biennale Tanzausbildung 2024 München, so many dance styles and backgrounds of different dancers come together that a mutual perception and inspiration is almost inevitable. So why not take advantage of this and create a kaleidoscope of mutual inspiration.

The choreographer Dustin Klein works with a number of interdisciplinary methods in the development of his pieces, as do various composers, graphic designers, filmmakers, directors, actors, costume designers and above all, dancers of all type, background and age.

In this workshop Dustin will work out how movement patters can spread in a group and how to be inspired by each other in a closed group and how to set each other up as roll models. Movement patterns and dance styles of all kind as well as characteristic properties spread like wildfire in the room and are preceded, implemented, and reinterpreted by the group until something completely unic and new emerges from it and others can be inspired by it and use it as a model. This creates an ever growing choreographic system.

Rainer Ludwig

For many years, Ludwig has been fascinated by the possibility of using the medium of light as a form of art and performance to highlight the shape of objects and spaces, to emphasise the atmosphere of a room and to influence and control the emotions and reactions evoked in the viewer. He uses the design elements of light direction, brightness, contrast and colour in an artistically targeted way to create lighting moods and light spaces that add a further level to architecture, scenography and stage events in terms of dramaturgy, content and emotion. He designs lighting concepts for the stage, exhibitions, trade fair performances and architecture.

Luca Seixas

Luca Seixas is a Brazilian dancer and choreographer from Campinas, São Paulo. His diverse studies encompass disciplines ranging from Capoeira to Classical and Contemporary Dance. He began his professional career with engagements at Companhia Brasileira de Balé and Deborah Colker Dance Company in Rio de Janeiro. Later, he joined the ensemble of São Paulo Dance Company. For the past seven years, Luca was a member of the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich. Currently, he is a freelance dance artist and has been guesting with the Iceland Dance Company while involved in personal projects as choreographer, exploring the sound ambience in his own works.

Jan Faszbender

Jan Faszbender began piano lessons in 1980 and created his first compositions at the age of 10. Since 1990 he has been working with electronic sound generators.

He studied piano and composition at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich from 1996 to 2001. The subject of his diploma thesis was “The Theremin in the History of Music”.

Since 1992, Jan Faszbender has realised countless live projects in a wide variety of styles, including at the Residenztheater Munich, the Kammerspiele Munich, Kampnagel and the city theatres of Augsburg and Constance. He has been a residency pianist with the Dreigroschenensemble Munich for 10 years. This practical experience has enabled him to develop a wide variety of musical styles for applied music and gain extensive experience with stage situations and studio recordings.

Dustin Klein

completed his education as a dancer at the Royal Ballet School, London and Trinity College London; he also gained a BTEC National Award in Arts Management.

In 2006, Klein was engaged by the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg and danced at the Bayerisches Staatsballett from 2008 – 21. There he appeared in solo roles in works by Christian Spuck, Jiří Kylián, John Neumeier, William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, Richard Siegal, Pina Bausch and Russell Maliphant, among others.

In 2012, he created his first choreography “Myopic Bounds” at the Landsberger Stadttheater and has since created works for numerous companies and festivals, including the Bavarian State Ballet, Salzburg Festival, Opéra du Dijon in France, Bühnen Bern, National Theatre in Prague, Stanislavski Theatre in Moscow, J.K. Tyl Theatre in the Czech Republic and from 2017 – 2022 for the Origen Festival Cultural in Switzerland. In addition to numerous awards for his work, he received the Culture Promotion Prize and the Ellinor Holland Art Prize 2015 in Landsberg am Lech, the Audience Award of the 34th Bavarian Theatre Days 2016 in Regensburg and the Production Prize of the 33rd International Choreographic Competition 2019 in Hanover. In January 2024, Dustin Klein created the choreography “RE-Movement” for the Oldenburg State Theatre Ballet as part of the ballet evening “Recycling II”, and for the production “Real Victory” he is guest choreographer at the Münster Theatre for the first time.

Peer to Peer Warm-up

We have reserved a designated space for students to converge, connect, and collaboratively prepare their bodies for a day of dance. Within this environment, fellow students have the opportunity to encounter one another, discover commonalities, share their personal practices, and engage in the exchange of knowledge.
